Chicago Bears Draft O'Donnell in Sixth Round

NEW YORK – Miami Hurricanes punter Pat O’Donnell was taken 191st overall Saturday by the Chicago Bears on third and final day of the 2014 NFL Draft. The Lake Worth, Fla., native is the second Miami Hurricane to be selected in this year’s draft and the 20th all-time taken by the Chicago Bears.

O’Donnell spent his graduate season with the Hurricanes in 2013 after spending four years at the Cincinnati Bearcats starting punter.

The 6-foot-5 punter was awarded the 2013 CFPA Punter Trophy after setting the Miami single-season record with a 47.1 yards-per-punt average. He booted 23 kicks of 50+ yards and finished the season with a punt of 50+ yards in eight straight games. He was a first-team All-ACC selection by ACSMA and the league’s head coaches, while picking up second-team All-America honors from USA TODAY Sports.

In five seasons, O’Donnell accumulated 10,168 yards in the air on 234 punts for a 43.5 yards-per-kick average. He tallied 57 punts that went 50 or more yards, while pinning opponents inside their 20-yard line 78 times.
