Baseball Unveils Retired Numbers Display
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami paid tribute to Hurricanes Baseball legends this week, unveiling a retired number display in the main concourse of Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
The display, which runs along the exterior locker room wall on the first base side of the concourse, has a special plaque for each of the Miami Hurricanes who have had their numbers retired (chronologically): Orlando Gonzalez (#20), Stan Jakubowski (#29), Randy Guerra (#25), Neal Heaton (#26), Stanley “Skip” Bertman (#15), Doug Shields (#5), Mike Fiore (#12), Ron Fraser (#1), Charles Johnson (#23), J.D. Arteaga (#33) and Pat Burrell (#11).
“This display recognizes 11 elite players and coaches who have helped make Hurricane Baseball the standard by which college baseball programs are judged, on the field and off,” Director of Alumni Programs Rick Remmert said. “They are a reminder of our historic past and a beacon for present and future Hurricanes to follow.”

The Hurricanes will be celebrating the retired numbers and the players who wore them with a ceremony during Miami’s final home series against North Carolina (May 15-17), details to be announced at a date in the near future.
The addition is just the latest in a series of upgrades to the ballpark, which saw the installation of NCAA postseason pennants across the concourse and a locker room wall branding display in January 2014.
Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field is home to just seven more regular-season games before postseason play begins. Tickets for Friday’s series opener against Alabama State, set for 7 p.m. first pitch, start at just $8.
