Goudis, Renfrow Named Academic All-ACC

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Miami Hurricanes placekicker Matt Goudis and defensive tackle Justin Renfrow were among the 67 players selected to the 2013 All-ACC Academic Football Team, announced Monday by Commissioner John Swofford. It was the first Academic All-ACC honor for both players.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 GPA for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. A student-athlete in graduate school must maintain a 3.5 GPA. All 14 ACC schools were represented by at least two selections on the team. The ACC has selected an All-ACC Academic Football team every year since 1954.

The team was chosen from a pool of 122 ACC football student-athletes who were nominated by their institutions.

Goudis, a sophomore accounting major from West Hills, Calif., connected on 13-of-17 field goals and was a perfect 57-of-57 on point-after attempts in 2013. His 96 points rank eighth among kickers on Miami’s single-season list, while his 57 made PATs are the second-most on Miami’s single-season list. His streak of 57 consecutive made PATs is the longest single-season streak in program history and the sixth-longest career streak.

Renfrow, a graduate student in liberal studies from Morrisville, Pa., joined the Hurricanes squad during preseason camp in August. The Virginia transfer played in all 13 games, making four starts at defensive tackle. He totaled 36 tackles, one forced fumble and two pass break-ups.
