#UGolf Opens Spring at Florida Challenge
LECANTO, Fla. – After a successful fall season, the Miami Hurricanes women’s golf team opens its 2014 spring slate Monday at the Florida Challenge, a one-day, 36-hole event featuring six Florida programs.
Monday’s tournament will begin with an 8 a.m. tee time at the par-72, 5,959-yard Quarry Course at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, located about 80 miles northwest of Orlando. Miami, who finished the fall ranked No. 33 by Golfstat, will look to earn state bragging rights as they compete against five in-state rivals – Florida, Florida State, FIU, UCF and host USF.
Eight Hurricanes will compete in the Florida Challenge. Miami’s lineup will include juniors Leticia Ras-Anderica and Rika Park, sophomore Kailey Walsh, and freshmen Daniela Darquea and Delfina Acosta. Sophomore Lauren Riehle, sophomore Christina Ocampo and senior Carina Cuculiza will compete as individuals.
Only five Miami golfers competed during the fall season. Ras-Anderica led the Canes with a 73.89 fall scoring average, while Acosta and Darquea were second with a 74.00 average each. Ras-Anderica, Acosta, Darquea and Walsh each had two top-25 finishes during fall competition. Riehle, Ocampo and Cuculiza will make their season debuts in Lecanto.
During the inaugural Florida Challenge event in 2013, the Hurricanes finished third out of five teams. Ras-Anderica was Miami’s top finisher last season, tying for fifth.
