Jimmy Graham Named NFC Player of the Month
NEW YORK — Former Miami Hurricanes star and New Orleans Saints Pro Bowl tight end Jimmy Graham was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for September, the NFL announced Thursday.
Graham is the first tight end to win Player of the Month since the NFL started the award in 1986.
The fourth-year veteran finished his record-breaking month with 27 receptions for 458 yards and six touchdowns. Graham is ranked second in the NFL in receiving yards, tied for first in touchdown receptions and fourth in first downs. He has posted three straight 100-yard games, including a 10-catch, 179-yard showing in a 16-14 win over divisional rival Tampa Bay.
The 26-year old is coming off the most dominant three-game stretch by a tight end in NFL history, where he posted 23 receptions for 413 yards (18.0 avg.) and five scores. Graham’s three-game span of 413 yards is tied with Shannon Sharpe (1996) for the most by a tight end over a three-game span in a single season.
Graham, who was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week Three, has earned his second award of the season and third for #ProCanes. Chicago Bears specialist Devin Hester was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Week Two.
