Monday ProCanes Report: Hester Goes Off

The Monday Morning ProCanes report will weed through all the NFL highlights and news to bring you the information you care about the most… what the former University of Miami Hurricanes did during the week prior.  Miami Hurricanes exploded for four touchdowns Sunday, while New Orleans’ tight end Jimmy Graham and Chicago Bears’ return man Devin Hester enjoyed career days for their respective teams. Graham recorded career-best totals of 10 catches and 179 yards, while Hester set a new franchise single-game record of 249 yards over his five kick returns. ProCanes registered 519 receiving yards (on 43 receptions), 85 rushing yards and 268 return yards – for a whopping total of 872 yards – in Week Two action.

Jimmy Graham (New Orleans Saints) – 10 receptions, 179 yards, one touchdown
The Saints’ offensive superstar dominated in his team’s 16-14 win over divisional rival Tampa Bay, tying a career high with 10 catches while setting a new personal record with 179 receiving yards. His 56-yard touchdown, celebrated by his trademark slam dunk through the goalposts, put the Saints ahead in the first quarter by a 10-7 margin. The fifth-year Pro Bowler, who recorded his 27th career touchdown in his 27th career professional start, had set a new career-high by halftime with 156 receiving yards and came just one yard shy of his sixth career multi-touchdown performance.

Devin Hester (Chicago Bears) –
five returns, 249 yards
The “Windy City Flyer” did it again Sunday, powering the Chicago Bears special teams unit in a 31-30 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Hester, who set a new franchise single-game record with 249 return yards, broke his previous personal record of 245 in the victory. The Bears’ eighth-year specialist, who recorded returns of 74 and 80 yards on his first two attempts, recorded the third-highest kick return yardage in NFL history for a player who had five returns or fewer. Hester ranks first in the NFL with 280 return yards this season, 60 more than the next highest total, and is currently averaging 46.7 yards per return through Week Two.

Greg Olsen (Carolina Panthers) –
seven receptions, 84 yards, one touchdown
The Carolina Panthers’ seventh-year tight end continued his torrid start to the season in a disappointing loss to the Buffalo Bills. Olsen led all Panthers receivers with seven catches and 84 yards, including his first touchdown of the season on a 13-yard laser from quarterback Cam Newton. Olsen also caught a 31-yard pass, the second-longest of the day for the Carolina offense, and registered his sixth straight game with at least five catches dating back to 2012. Olsen is off to the best start through two weeks of his seven-year career with totals of 12 catches and 140 yards, and will look to better his career form of last season, when he caught 69 passes for 843 yards.

Lamar Miller (Miami Dolphins) – 14 carries, 69 yards, one touchdown
The Dolphins’ second-year running back delivered some big carries in Indianapolis, including the team’s second touchdown of the day on a 10-yard dash to the endzone. Miller, who paced all Dolphins rushers with 69 yards on 14 carries, came just five yards shy of setting a new personal record single-game rushing yards. The Miami, Fla., native clinched the 24-20 win in the fourth quarter with a big run for a first down, and led all running backs in the contest by averaging just shy of five yards per carry (4.93). The touchdown was just the second career score for Miller, who will shoulder much of the Dolphins’ rushing attack in his second season with the hometown team.
