Football Debuts at No. 15 in AP Top 25
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Following a 21-16 upset win over in-state rival Florida, the Miami Hurricanes jumped 11 spots to No. 15 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll released Sunday.
Miami, who was receiving votes in last week’s poll, makes its first AP Top 25 appearance since the week of Nov. 14, 2010, snapping a 38-poll drought of not being ranked by the AP.
Miami is ranked in the AP Top 15 for the first time since the week of Oct. 3, 2010, when it was ranked No. 13.
Al Golden is ranked in the AP Top 25 for the first time as a head coach. The last time he was part of an AP Top 25 ranked team was Oct. 16, 2005, when he was the defensive coordinator at Virginia.
The Hurricanes (2-0), who were tied for 24th in last week’s USA TODAY Sports Top 25, jumped six spots in the coaches poll to No. 18, tying with Wisconsin. It is also Miami’s highest ranking in the coaches poll since the week of Oct. 3, 2010, when it was ranked No. 14.
