MBB Players Rewrite Record Book
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The men’s basketball team made a post-season run for the record books this year after reaching the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. Not only did the team match their best run in the Big Dance this season, many players added individual records to UM men’s basketball history.
Senior Durand Scott scattered his name across the University of Miami men’s basketball record book after playing four years on the team. Scott sits atop the record books in minutes played in a career (4,238), games started in a career (125), and games played in a career (132). Scott earned the fifth-place spot in Miami’s history of minutes played in a season after recording 1,142 minutes, and also holds the second-place mark after recording 1,182 minutes in 2010-2011. Scott is eighth in Miami’s record books for both points scored in a career (1,650) and field goals made in a career (580). Scott also finished his career at Miami fourth all-time in free throws made with 392, fifth in assists with 404 and seventh in steals with 166.
Sophomore Shane Larkin, UM’s 2012-13 leader in points, assists, and steals, also added his name to the record books. Larkin’s 164 handouts placed him fourth all-time in assists in a season and his 71 steals are third all-time in a single season. Larkin accomplished all of this while registering 35 starts and 1,311 minutes in 2012-13, UM’s third-most games started and most minutes in a season in school history.
Senior Kenny Kadji reserved a spot for himself in the record books after finishing the campaign tied for the most games started in a season with 36. Kadji is also ninth in career field goal percentage at UM after hitting 305-of-637 (.479) in his two playing seasons at the university.
In five years with the Canes, senior Reggie Johnson leaves UM with the seventh-highest number of career rebounds with 842. Johnson also has the ninth-most blocked shots in a career with 113.
A two-year player at Miami, Trey McKinney Jones left his mark in the books after finishing his career with the sixth-highest 3-point field goal percentage in a career, hitting 99-of-257 (.385). McKinney Jones also finished the season with 34 starts, which ties for fifth-most in a season in school history, and also finished the season with 1,091 minutes played which leaves him at 10th in minutes played in a season.
Julian Gamble recorded 63 blocks in his sixth year at Miami, leaving him ninth in blocked shots in a season and his 132 career blocks are the fifth-most by a Cane. Gamble also leaves UM with the third-highest number of games played in a career with 129.
