FB Adds Dual-Sport Star Elder to 2013 Class
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Tennessee dual-sport prep star Cornelius Elder signed a National Letter of Intent to play at the University of Miami, becoming the Hurricanes’ 18th Class of 2013 signee, head coach Al Golden announced Wednesday.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound athlete from The Ensworth School in Nashville is rated the nation’s No. 8 athlete by 247Sports.com and the nation’s No. 7 running back by Rivals.com. He’s also listed as the nation’s No. 17 and No. 33 running back by ESPN and Scout.com, respectively. The 4-star athlete is ranked as the No. 2 running back in Tennessee by both ESPN and Rivals.com.
Known for his speed and elusiveness, Elder rushed for 2,618 yards and 39 touchdowns as a senior in 2012 and led Ensworth to its third straight Division II-AA state title. He finished his prep football career with 6,351 rushing yards, 84 touchdowns and three consecutive state titles. The No. 2 prospect on The Tennessean Dandy Dozen was named Mr. Football Back of the Year in 2011 and 2012.
Elder, who has been clocked with 4.42 40 time, is a two-sport star that also excelled on the basketball court. He has led Ensworth to two straight Division II-AA basketball championships and was named the state tournament’s most valuable player. He is currently averaging more than 20 points per game for the Tigers this season.
Miami’s 2013 signing class is ranked No. 17 in 247Sports.com‘s composite rankings and No. 21 by ESPN. Miami’s talent-laden class features 15 freshmen and three juniors from 11 different states.
The Canes will kick off their spring practice schedule Sat., March 2 at the GreenTree Practice Fields.
