T&F Travels West for New Mexico Classic

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Coming off a bye-week, the Miami Hurricanes Track and Field program is back in action, competing in the New Mexico Classic at the University of New Mexico Indoor Track and Field Complex.

“I’m excited to head to New Mexico this weekend, it’s a great facility,” Miami director of track and field/cross country Amy Deem said. “I think we got the first week jitters over with. I think we’ve had a very good week and a half of practice. I think we’ll be more aggressive and have a much better weekend this weekend.”

The meet kicks off on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. ET with women’s long jumps and continues Saturday morning at 12 p.m. ET with the women’s shot put event.

Senior Greg Kaczkawill compete in the men’s 800m, as well as the mile run. He looks to improve on his personal best mile time of 4:12:08, a record he set at the Auburn Invitational two weeks ago.

Freshman Isaiah Simmonswill try to improve his shot put distance for the third consecutive meet. At the Auburn Invitational, Simmons recorded a distance of 18.17m, beating his own record from the Kentucky Invitational three weeks ago.

After winning the triple jump at Auburn with a distance of 12.94m, senior All-American Samantha Williams  wants to continue her success. In previous meets, Williams has competed in both the long jump and the triple jump. But the Jamaican native will focus on the triple jump for the New Mexico Classic.

Junior Alaine Tatewill compete in the women’s 600m and 800m run. The junior runner finished seventh behind sophomore teammate Taneisha Cordell in the women’s 800m at the Auburn Invitational.

The University of New Mexico Indoor Track is located in the Albuquerque Convention Center. The facility includes a 200-meter, 60 degree banked Mondo track. The track has 8-sprint lanes with a brand new infield.
