@CanesBaseball Opens Spring Practice

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami baseball team will officially open spring practice Friday in prepartion for its 2013 campaign. The team’s first practice at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field will begin at 2:30 p.m, with pre-practice stretch set for 2 p.m.

The Hurricanes’ 2013 regular season commences on Feb. 15, when Rutgers University arrives at A-Rod Park for a three-game series. Miami will play eight of its first nine regular season games at home, including three-game sets with the Scarlet Knights (Feb. 15-17) and Milwaukee (Feb. 22-24). Preseason events gearing up for Opening Day include the annual First Pitch Banquet (Thur., Feb. 7), the University of Miami Baseball Golf Tournament (Fri., Feb. 8) and the Alumni Game (Sat., Feb. 9).

The 2013 First Pitch Banquet will feature a speakers panel comprised of UBaseball alumni Yonder Alonso (San Diego Padres), Jon Jay (St. Louis Cardinals) Chris Perez (Cleveland Indians). In addition to the panel, there will be an auction featuring memorabilia and other Hurricanes merchandise, a presentation by head coach Jim Morris and a multi-course dinner. The University of Miami Baseball Golf Tournament, presented by the First National Bank of South Miami, will be held Feb. 8 at the exclusive Melreese Country Club. Fans can enjoy a great day of golf with head coach Jim Morris and some current and former UBaseball stars. The team’s annual Fan Fest and Alumni Game will take place Feb. 9 at A-Rod Park. Pregame festivities will begin at 4 p.m., including an autograph session with players and coaches, inflatables and face painting for children, and more. The game, a competition between the 2013 Hurricanes and a team comprised of former stars, is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
