Monday ProCanes Report: Super Bowl Bound

The Monday ProCanes report will weed through all the NFL highlights and news to bring you the information you care about the most… what the former Hurricanes did during the week prior. When the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers step on the field in New Orleans to battle it ouf for Super Bowl XLVII, no university will be more represented than Miami, who leads the nation with seven former players on the final two rosters of 2012: Damien Berry (Baltimore, injured reserve), Tavares Gooden (San Francisco), Frank Gore (San Francisco), Ray Lewis (Baltimore), Bryant McKinnie (Baltimore), Ed Reed (Baltimore) and Tommy Streeter (Baltimore, injured reserve).

Ray Lewis (Baltimore Ravens) – 14 tackles
Competing in what could have been the final game of his illustrious career, the Ravens’ defensive captain wore his emotions on his sleeve during pregame ceremonies. Starting from the opening whistle, his play on defense was pivotal. Lewis would finish the AFC Championship with a game-high 14 tackles, bringing him to a league-high 44 over the Ravens’ 2012 postseason run. Lewis, emotional in postgame interviews, will be competing in his first Super Bowl since SB XXXV in 2000, when Lewis helped guide Baltimore to a win over the New York Giants.

Frank Gore (San Francisco 49ers) – 21 carries, 90 yards, two touchdowns
When the 49ers’ Pro Bowl running back was asked by Jimmy Johnson his gameplan heading into Sunday’s game, Gore made his point crystal clear: “I’m from ‘The U,’ and I’m going to do my thing. Gore delivered on his prediction, finishing with two touchdowns and helping power the 49ers to a comeback over first-seeded Atlanta on the road. Gore, who finished with 90 yards and two scores, will be competing in the first Super Bowl of his career alongside special teams specialist Tavares Gooden.
