Monday @ProCanes Report: Eight Canes Move On

The Monday ProCanes report will weed through all the NFL highlights and news to bring you the information you care about the most… what the former Hurricanes did during the week prior. Behind a heroic performance from Ray Lewis in his last game at M&T Bank Stadium, the Baltimore Ravens dispatched Reggie Wayne and the Indianapolis Colts to earn a second-round matchup with No. 1 seed Denver. Andre Johnson and the Houston Texans toppled the Cincinnati Bengals, while Sam Shields helped lead the Packers past Minnesota.

Ray Lewis (Baltimore Ravens) – 13 tackles
The 17-year veteran made waves across the league last week when he announced he would retire following the Baltimore Ravens’ postseason run. Lewis, marking his return to the Baltimore lineup after sustaining a triceps injury in Week Six, dominated in his final game in front of the home crowd at M&T Bank Stadium. Lewis led all Ravens’ defensive players with 13 total tackles, including a team-best nine solo takedowns. Playing an inspired brand of defense with the help of its captain, Baltimore’s defense did not allow the Colts into the endzone. In a farewell gesture to the home crowd, Lewis came on for the last play of the game.

Reggie Wayne (Indianapolis Colts) – nine catches, 114 yards
Despite his team’s disappointing first-round exit, Wayne continued arguably the most dominant individual season of his career with a spectacular performance against Houston. Under the direction of inspirational head coach Chuck Pagano, the 12th-year wideout led all pass-catchers with nine receptions and 114 yards, good for his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the 2012 season. With his nine-catch performance, Wayne moved into second place all-time in postseason receptions with 92, trailing only San Francisco 49ers’ all-time great Jerry Rice. 

Andre Johnson (Houston Texans) – four catches, 62 yards
Houston’s Pro Bowl wideout continued on his torrid end to the season with a 62-yard showing in the Texans’ first-round win over Indianapolis. Johnson, who finished the regular season ranked second in the league with 1,598 receiving yards, showed little signs of slowing down heading into the second round. The tenth-year veteran, joined by fellow ProCanes Chris Myers, Darryl Sharpton and Brandon Harris, will travel north for a showdown with second-seeded New England in the divisional round.
