Salcines Named NCBWA Preseason All-American

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Junior reliever AJ Salcines has been selected to the 2013 Preseason All-America third team, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association (NCBWA) announced Wednesday.

The Miami, Fla., native, who finished the 2012 season ranked second on the team with seven saves, anchored the Hurricanes’ bullpen in his sophomore campaign. The southpaw ranked first among all Canes pitchers with an ERA of 1.40, having allowed only six earned runs in 38.2 innings of work.

Salcines tied for first in the Atlantic Coast Conference with 39 appearances on the hill, while his seven saves tied for seventh-most among all ACC relievers. The lefthander held hitters to a paltry .193 batting average on the season, boasted a 44:11 strikeout-to-walk ratio and maintained a flawless 3-0 record.

To close out his impressive season, Salcines was one of three Hurricanes named to the 2012 All-ACC Academic Team.
