Monday ProCanes Report: Andre Comes Up Big

The Monday ProCanes report will weed through all the NFL highlights and news to bring you the information you care about the most… what the former University of Miami Hurricanes did during the week prior. Andre Johnson’s career day, which included personal-best marks of 14 catches and 273 yards, helped guide Houston to a comeback win over Jacksonville in overtime. Johnson’s 48-yard touchdown in the extra period, which sent the Texans to their ninth win on the season, capped the ninth-best performance by a receiver in NFL history.

Andre Johnson (Houston Texans) – 14 catches, 273 yards, one touchdown
If anyone was questioning whether Andre Johnson was slowing down in his tenth professional season, the veteran wideout quelled the notion with the most dominant performance of his career to date. Johnson had eclipsed the 100-yard mark by halftime, and became only the tenth receiver in NFL history with 270+ yards in one game. Johnson’s 48-yard touchdown catch, his 14th and final reception of the game, sealed Houston’s 43-37 win over Jacksonville. With his prolific performance Sunday, Johnson now ranks No. 32 all-time in NFL receiving yards (10,526).

Santana Moss (Washington Redskins) – one catch, 61 yards, one touchdown
The 12th-year wideout delivered one of the most impressive plays of the season Sunday, hauling in a candidate for Play of the Year on a 61-yard touchdown from RGIII. Despite being double-covered, Moss snatched the ball out of the air between two Philadelphia Eagles defensive backs, muscled his way an extra few yards into the endzone, and effectively gave his team a commanding 17-point lead. It was the second long touchdown of the season for Moss, who also registered a 77-yard score Week Five against Atlanta.

Reggie Wayne (Indianapolis Colts) – seven catches, 72 yards
Despite his team’s 59-24 loss to host New England, Reggie Wayne reached another milestone with his 79-yard performance for Indianapolis. The 12th-year veteran,  who has caught at least three passes for each of his last 58 games, tied Cris Carter for the NFL record in the category. He eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the eighth time in his career in the game, besting last season’s total of 960 yards. Wayne, who ranks first in the NFL in targets with 130, is one of only three players averaging over 100 yards a game, and ranks second in the NFL through Week 11 with 1,003 yards.

Brandon Meriweather (Washington Redskins) – seven tackles, one interception
The sixth-year veteran enjoyed a successful debut for Washington, finishing with seven tackles and his first interception as a Redskin in only one half of football. Despite being held out of the second half for precautionary reasons relating to a knee sprain, Meriweather tied for second on the team with seven tackles and also registered two pass break-ups. The two-time Pro Bowler missed the first nine games of his team’s regular season with a sprained MCL and PCL in his left knee.
