FT. MYERS, Fla. – With a morning victory in the semifinals, University of Miami senior Victor Mauz faced off in the championship match of the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles Fall Invitational in Ft. Myers.
Mauz defeated Will Neuner of FAU in three sets, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, in the morning’s semifinal, then fell to Jordi Vives of FGCU in the finals.
“Victor had a great tournament this weekend. He won four very physical matches leading up to the finals,” said Coach Mario Rincon. “Henrique also had a really good win today in the back draw and Jack won his back draw match, too.”
Sophomore Henrique Tsukamoto defeated Ollie Lemaitre (Barry) 6-2, 2-6, 10-7, and freshman Jack Murphy downed John Nowak (FAU) 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 in their back draw singles matches.
“It was a good tournament for us,” added Rincon. “We played a lot of tennis and got a lot of matches under our belts. Our guys are working extremely hard, competing at a high level and getting better every day. We are looking forward to our next tournament, which is the regional in Tallahassee.”
