Mauz Plays Way Into Quarterfinals

FT. MYERS, Fla. – University of Miami senior Victor Mauz played his way into the quarterfinals of the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles Fall Invitational Friday afternoon in Ft. Myers. 
Mauz defeated Colin Brown of FGCU 6-0, 6-3 to open the event, then defeated Barry’s Leo Vivas 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 to make his way to the third round. At 5-4 against Vivas, Mauz was able to break, then win the match in the third set. 
“Victor played well in the big points and he served really well under pressure,” said Coach Mario Rincon. “It was a very competitive match and he was able to get a big win for us.”
Mauz will face Dean Tsamas of FGCU Saturday morning in the quarters. 
Mark Schanerman took Gabe Echeverry (FGCU) to three sets, but came up short, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, while Henrique Tsukamoto lost 6-3, 6-4 to Matt Gladstone of UCF and Jack Murphy was defeated 6-4, 6-3 by Tuanyu Bao of FGCU. 
“Jack showed a lot of improvement today and I’m looking forward to watching him in action again tomorrow,” added Rincon. 
In doubles, Schanerman and Tsukamoto were defeated, 8-5, by Michael Beiler and Colin Brown of the host school, FGCU while Mauz and Murphy came up short, 8-3, to FAU’s Sean Bacha and Jose Fantova.
