CORAL GABLES, Fla. – With only 12 days to go until the 2012 season opener, the Miami Hurricanes enter the final stretch of #CanesCamp. The Canes hit the practice fields Monday for their 20th practice of the fall.

Just moments before his routine pre-practice media session, second-year head coach Al Golden released the second post-scrimmage depth chart of fall camp. On Saturday, the Canes held their second fall scrimmage, but it was ultimately limited to only 60 plays due to lightning.

“We’re really looking at the total body of work,” Golden said. “We’ve made a lot of decisions over the last 24 hours. Obviously, there are positions still open and we’re still competing. Clearly, I think we know who we’re working with at this time.”

A few new position battles emerged on Monday’s depth chart, including at receiver and along the offensive and defensive lines. Also among the depth chart competitions are at the running back and secondary spots.

“Running back, a lot of decisions there,” Golden said. “We’re trying to figure out Ben Jones and Jermaine Johnson on the offensive line. Both have earned playing time.

“One of our defensive end spots looks a lot better now than (it did) two weeks ago with Shayon Green, (Kelvin) Cain and (Tyriq) McCord,” Golden said.

Sophomore LB Jimmy Gaines and senior LB Ramon Buchanan were not dressed out for practice, while Green and Denzel Perryman were the lone defensive players wearing a coveted black jersey.

Tuesday will be the Hurricanes’ fifth and final two-a-day practice of fall camp, which will begin at 8:35 a.m. #CanesCamp will break Wednesday with a 9:25 a.m. practice.
