CORAL GABLES, FL—Taking advantage of the University’s one-dayFall Recess, the University of Miami Hurricanes (3-2, 1-1) held a two-hourmorning practice today in pads at Greentree Practice Field. The Canesdo not play until Saturday, October 24th, when they travel to Morgantown,WV to face the 15th ranked Mountaineers (4-1, 1-0) in a BIG EAST Conferenceaction.
“We have had a good week of practice,” said coach Butch Davis.“The advantage of having an open week is it allows you to go back and lookat the film from the Florida State game and spend a couple days correctingmistakes before going on with preparation for West Virginia.”
True freshman Michael Rumph may start in place of Leonard Myersat right cornerback against West Virginia. Rumph would be makinghis second start and has appeared in all five games. Thus far thisseason he has recorded seven tackles, one tackle for loss, four pass breakups and has caused a fumble. Rumph started in place of an injuredMyers (ankle sprain) at Rutgers.
Myers underwent arthroscopic left knee surgery to repair a tornmeniscus on Tuesday. The injury occurred during the Florida Stategame and is expected to sideline the sophomore for two weeks. Myershas started four games this season, registering 14 tackles, one interceptionand a BIG EAST leading 12 pass break ups.
The Canes will be off Saturday, before resuming their typicalgame-week routine Sunday.
