CORAL GABLES, FL – The University of Miami men’s tennis teambegin the fall tournament portion of its schedule this weekend at theClemson Invitational, October 2-4 at the Hoak Sloan Tennis Center inClemson, SC.

Head Coach Jay Berger willbring four freshmen and four veteransto the weekend tournament.

“This team has been playingreal well in practices,” saidBerger. “Now is the time to see how they’ll play in collegiatecompetition. It’s a lot different from juniors.”

The veteran contingent isled by juniors Fernando Borja, ArpadOdry and Mark Arrowsmith and sophomore Johan Lindqvist. Borja,18-8 insingles competition last season, earned the deciding point to givethemen’s team the 1998 BIG EAST title. Lindqvist earned 1998 teamco-MVPhonors after leading the team with a 22-8 singles record. Odrywas astaple at No. 1 doubles last season, earning a national ranking withformer Hurricane Arturo Zizold. Arrowsmith came on late duringthe 1998season winning four of his final six singles matches.

Among the freshmen playersmaking the trip to Clemson are: JoelBerman, Tarik Elbassouni, Jose Lieberman and Jamin Thompson.

“These young guys are prettygood,” added Berger. “Between allof them, they have probably played most of the upcoming competitiononthe junior circuit.”
