Canes Add Three to Football Staff

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami football program has added three new members to its staff as announced by Head Coach Al Golden Wednesday. Rob Messinger, Lindsay Bohlen and DJ Hernandez have joined the Hurricanes’ football staff in administrative capacities.
As Coordinator of Football Operations, Messinger, in an administrative role, will work with the National Recruiting Coordinator to maximize and streamline Miami football recruiting efforts across the nation, assist with on-campus recruiting efforts with primary focus on walk-ons and will serve as an academic liaison between the football staff and University academic officials. Messinger previously served as a volunteer assistant in the football operations office.
Prior to his time at Miami, Messinger worked from 2008-2011 as an assistant coach at Washburn University and was an assistant coach at Ottawa University from 2006-2008. Messinger received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas, where he also played defensive back. Messinger went on to earn his master’s degree in education from Washburn University.
Bohlen also joins the football staff as the Coordinator of Football Operations. Bohlen worked as an administrative assistant to head football coach Al Golden and to the Associate Athletic Director for Communications Chris Freet from 2010-12. Prior to starting her administrative work with Coach Golden, Bohlen worked in the athletic department as a senior accounting assistant. Outside of her various jobs at Miami, Bohlen has worked for ESPN, IMG/Sony Ericsson Open and in the ticket office at Boston College.
Hernandez was hired as an offensive graduate assistant after serving as the quarterbacks coach at Brown University this past season. Hernandez will assist in all offensive efforts, but will spend much of his time coaching the wide receivers and assisting wide receivers coach George McDonald. Before his time at Brown, Hernandez was the head coach at Southington High School (Conn.) from May 2010 to April 2011. Hernandez has also served in a variety of capacities as a player and coach for The Carinthian Black Lions (Klagenfurt, Austria). Hernandez was a two-year captain for the University of Connecticut where he played quarterback and receiver from 2004-09. During his time at Connecticut, Hernandez earned his bachelors of arts degree in Human Development and Family Studies and his master’s degree in School Counseling.
