Bartenstein Earns ITA Division I All-America Honor
June 7, 2012
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the second straight season, University of Miami women’s tennis player Anna Bartenstein has been awarded with ITA Division I All-America honors. Bartenstein led the Canes with stellar performances all the way to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, guiding Miami to a 21-5 record. For the Canes, it was their sixth Elite Eight appearance in the last seven years.
“Anna really deserves this honor and I am so proud of her,” said Miami Head Coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews. “Her success is a direct reflection of true commitment to this program and to her tennis.”
Bartenstein entered the 2012 NCAA Singles Championship ranked No. 18 in the nation and made it to the second round where she was tripped up by USC’s Zoe Scandalis.
To earn All-America honors as a singles player a student-athlete must be a Top 16 seed in the NCAA Singles Championship, advance to the round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship, or be ranked in the Top 20 of the final ITA rankings.
Bartenstein, who played all but four matches in the No. 1 position, finished her senior spring season with an 18-6 record and at one point was ranked as high as No. 12 in the nation.
On the ITA Division I All-America team Bartenstein is joined by ACC Player and Freshman of the Year Beatrice Capra of Duke, Georgia Tech’s Jillian O’Neill, and the North Carolina doubles team of Shinann Featherston and Lauren McHale.
