It takes something special for any team to get to Omaha. One of the team’s co-captains, and the longest-tenured player on the Hurricanes roster, knows exactly what it takes. Each week, Eric Erickson will be checking in on the team’s progress to get back to college baseball’s promised land.

After what you would call a rollercoaster-type season for the 2012 Hurricanes, it was very exciting for us to clinch a position in the ACC Tournament with the wins over Wake Forest this past weekend.  Anything can happen come tournament time, and I wouldn’t bet against us if the NCAA allowed us to gamble.  It feels great to have life in the postseason and our team goal is to host a regional tournament – which is still a possibility.

This is also a very exciting time for a different reason – the Major League Baseball Draft is coming up in just a few weeks.  We have some guys that will be very successful at the next level, which is something we all look forward to.  I know I’m very excited to finally enter the next step of my career, but I’m not allowing that to distract me from performing at my best during the remainder of my time at the University of Miami.

Playing baseball at Miami has left me with memories that I will simply never forget.  I will always hold a tremendous amount of pride because of my experiences as a Hurricane.  The heart and soul of a Miami Hurricane is something very unique when compared to those who have competed at different institutions.  All of the celebrations and battles I have seen during my time here have molded me into the person I was destined to be.  I grew into a true champion here in Miami, which will carry me for the rest of my life, no matter what happens.

I realize that I may never pitch in front of the wonderful fans in Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field again, which makes me sad. But the possibility of hosting a regional isn’t out of the question and it “ain’t over til it’s over.”  I think you know who that quote belongs to.
