Canes to Host NCAA Regional for Eighth Straight Season

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the eighth straight year, the University of Miami women’s tennis team will host an NCAA Regional at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
It was announced Tuesday evening that the Hurricanes earned a No. 10 national seed and will host No. 2 seed Texas Tech, No. 3 seed Utah and No. 4 seed UNF in the tournament’s first two rounds on May 11 and 12.
“We are excited to be a regional host once again,” said Yaroshuk-Tews. “It is definitely an advantage to play at home, but we have to make sure that we take advantage of the opportunity because we know that every team in this tournament has the potential to advance.”
The Canes (18-4, 9-2 ACC) will play North Florida (16-4) on Friday, May 11 at 1 p.m, while Texas Tech (19-5) and Utah (11-10) will play in the first match of the day at 10 a.m. The regional final is slated for Saturday at 1 p.m.
Miami has advanced out of regional play and into the Sweet 16 each of the last six seasons. This year’s team championships will be held in Athens, Ga. from May 17-21.
The Hurricanes are led by a pair of seniors, Anna Bartenstein and Gabriela Mejia, who are ranked No. 16 and No. 25 respectively. Miami has also seen the rise of freshman Lina Lileikite, who has played a very important role. The Latvia native is currently ranked No. 74 and sports a team-best 16-2 overall record.
The Hurricanes are a perfect 14-0 at home and have defeated five Top 25 teams at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center this season.
The field for the NCAA’s singles and doubles championships will be announced on Wednesday.
