RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 6 Hurricanes have moved their win streak to 12 straight matches as they ended a two-match road trip with a 6-1 victory over NC State on Sunday at the J.W. Isenhower Tennis Center.
Head Coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said that it would require high energy from the start and that is exactly what her Hurricanes brought. The Canes easily swept all three doubles matches, 8-1, 8-2 and 8-1, giving Miami the early point.
In fact, the only hiccup on the day was a No. 60 Joelle Kissell upset of the Canes’ 20th-ranked Anna Bartenstein, 6-3, 5-7, 10-4.
Gabriela Mejia, the 32nd-ranked singles player in the nation, responded well after suffering a loss at Wake Forest yesterday, dispatching the Pack’s Ashley Miller, 6-1, 6-2. The Hurricanes’ third ranked player, No. 99 Lina Lileikite, improved to 11-1 in singles play on the season with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Chloe Smith.
Sophomores Melissa Bolivar and Brittany Dubins won their matches in straight sets, each with 6-1, 6-1 scores. Freshman Liat Zimmeran took her match from Elisha Hande at No. 5, 7-5, 3-6, 10-1.
The Canes have a week off before facing Wake Forest in the Neil Schiff Tennis Center next Sunday vs. Maryland.
