Adams Breaks School Record to Lead Canes at Hurricane Invite

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The Miami men’s and women’s track teams wrapped up the first meet of the outdoor season in front of their home crowd at Cobb Stadium. The Canes started the meet off with a bang as Connor Adams took the victory in the second track event of the day, running the 1,500 meters in a school record time of 3:52.50. On the women’s side, Allison Ludwick took home a sixth-place finish in a new personal best time of 4:46.81.

In the morning session, Rachel Dupree won the heptathlon after setting a new personal best in the final event, the 800 meters. She crossed the line at 2:29.30, finishing her tally with 4,294 points. Dupree would return later in the day to finish second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.72 seconds.

The men’s 400 meters featured ACC Indoor 800-meter finalist Brian Laskowski, who placed seventh with a new personal best time of 48.87. He would return for the last event of the meet, teaming up with Darrell Butler, Bassim El-Sabawi and Christian Cook to win the 4×400-meter relay in 3:15.34 after an inspired anchor leg from Cook.

Thandi Stewart won the 800 meters in 2:13.08 and was followed by freshman Taneisha Cordell in third with a time of 2:17.24.

Senior Ashley Holmes had a productive day, first winning the shot put with a throw of 14.34m. Holmes then returned to the circle to lead a 2-3-4 finish in the discus for the Canes followed by Miranda Wilson and Amber Monroe.

Junior transfer Samantha Williams earned a victory in the long jump with a mark of 5.75m.
