CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 12th-ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team extended its winning streak to seven matches as it defeated No. 10 Baylor, 6-1, Tuesday night at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

Senior Anna Bartenstein, ranked No. 20 nationally in the latest ITA poll won the clinching match in her always fiery fashion. After a brisk 6-0 first set, the Austrian then battled her 27th-ranked opponent, Nina Secerbegovic to a 6-4 victory in the second set.

The other Miami senior, No. 32 Gabriela Mejia, picked up a huge win for herself as she handled No. 13 Diana Nakic, 6-2, 6-3. In doubles play, Mejia and her partner Lina Lileikite moved to 10-0 on the season with an 8-4 win over the Baylor duo of Nakic and Sona Novakova.

Earlier in the day it was announced that Lileikite was named the ACC Player of the Week for the second consecutive time. However, the 99th-ranked freshman would fall for the first time on the season to Novakova – the 53rd-ranked singles player in the nation.

The Canes’ Melissa Bolivar, Liat Zimmerman and Brittany Dubins each won in straight sets over Baylor’s Ema Burgic (6-1, 6-2), Megan Horter (6-2, 6-4) and Nicole Kosakowski (6-3, 6-1) respectively.

In doubles, the 28th-ranked Miami duo of Bolivar and Zimmerman was upset by No. 46 Burgic and Secerbegovic, 9-7. However, the No. 3 doubles pair of Bartenstein and Dubins secured the doubles point with an 8-2 victory over Horter and Kosakowski.

Miami will have a day off tomorrow before facing Kentucky on Thursday. That match is set to begin at 5 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The Canes will close out the week on Saturday with a home match against Yale at 11 a.m.
