Hurricanes Undefeated on First Day of Eagle Invite

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team got their season started in flawless fashion on Saturday afternoon during the first day of the Eagle Invite hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University.

The No. 11 Hurricanes won all their singles and doubles matches on Saturday, including dominant performances from some of the team’s most decorated stars. Seniors Anna Bartenstein and Gabriela Mejia, ranked No. 15 and No. 39 respectively in the first ITA singles rankings of the season, won their singles matches in impressive fashion and took down their doubles match over Olga Bazhanova and Polina Konop of Northwestern State University (8-2).

Freshmen Liat Zimmerman and Lina Lilekeite also played well in their Hurricane debuts, as Lina won her match against Carla Venticinque of Wichita State (6-3, 6-1) while Liat took down Ksenia Pronina (6-3, 6-1).

With the addition of Liat and Lina, Head Coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews as adjusted the doubles teams to include the Hurricanes’ newest student-athletes. The two new doubles combinations, Liat and Melissa Bolivar and Lina and Brittany Dubins, also won their doubles matches in strong fashion.
