Spence Invited to Prestigious Bowl

CORAL GABLES, Fla.– Miami Hurricane Sean Spence has been invited to participate in the 2012 Senior Bowl.
The Senior Bowl is the premier showcase for senior NFL talent. Spence, who has been one of the most dominant defensive players in the country, will represent Miami in this year’s prestigious event.
The Miami, Fla. native tied for fifth place in the Atlantic Coast Conference with 106 total tackles in 2011, ending the year second among all NCAA players with 47 career tackles for loss, including 14.0 in 2011. A semifinalist for the Butkus Award, Spence averaged 9.64 tackles per game (fourth in conference) and 1.27 tackles for loss per game (third in conference) in 2011. The outside linebacker also finished the season with three sacks, one pass break-up and one forced fumble.
The University of Miami has had 62 players invited to the Senior Bowl during its lengthy history. The first player invited was center Art Davies in 1950.

Last season, Allen Bailey, Leonard Hankerson, Colin McCarthy and DeMarcus Van Dyke participated in the showcase workouts. Bailey (Kansas City Chiefs), Hankerson (Washington Redskins) and Van Dyke (Oakland Raiders) were all drafted in the third round. McCarthy was picked up by the Tennessee Titans in the fourth round of the NFL Draft.
The Senior Bowl will be played in Mobile, Ala. on January 28, 2012. It will air live at 4 p.m. ET on the NFL Network.
