Miami Takes Four Singles Matches in Orlando

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team won four of five singles matches against Arkansas on the first day of competition at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla.

Hurricane Omar Aly defeated Manfred Jeske 6-2, 6-1 while UM’s Victor Mauz downed Mike Ward 6-3, 7-5. Diego Soto and Santiago Nieto each played three sets to earn their victories. Soto defeated Jovan Parlic 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, and Nieto won 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 over Victor Hoang. Miami’s Gabriel Flores was defeated by Nikolas Zogaj, 6-4, 6-3.

Miami was 1-1 in doubles matches as Mauz and Nieto won 8-3 over Zogaj and Ward, while Flores and Soto dropped their match 8-5 to Fess and Walters.

Saturday the Hurricanes face Auburn at 9:30 a.m. at the UCF Tennis Complex in Orlando, Fla. The event wraps up on Sunday when Miami battles host UCF at 1:30 p.m.
