Howarth's Hard Work Rewarded with ACC Honors

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami Hurricanes junior forward Kate Howarth was named to the All-ACC Second Team as announced Thursday by the Atlantic Coast Conference. After breaking her leg early last season, Howarth came back even stronger with 10 goals, six assists and 26 points during her junior campaign, all team and career highs.

“We are very proud of Kate for this accomplishment,” said Miami head coach Tom Anagnost. “Very few people could have displayed the character and commitment to bounce back from such a devastating injury last year and have an effect on the outcomes of so many games.”

Howarth’s great play this season not only made her a top scorer on the team, but also within the conference. Her 26 points ranked fifth in the ACC and her 10 goals ranked fourth.

“She exhibits focus, very hard work in training, and competitiveness, which is what we are trying to get all of our student-athletes to do consistently on a daily basis,” said Coach Anagnost.

Howarth was a model of consistency throughout the season, notching at least one point in 12 of 15 games. She also registered three multi-goal games.

The Grand Blanc, Mich. native began the season by scoring in five of the team’s first seven games, totaling seven goals and three assists over the stretch. Her best game of the season came in a 3-0 win over Duquesne, where she scored two goals and assisted on the other. Over her torrid seven-game stretch, the team finished a perfect 7-0.

The junior suffered a rare scoring drought over the next four games, but in typical fashion, she came back strong. Howarth totaled two goals and two assists in late October games against No. 4 Boston College and No. 10 Maryland.

For her dominating performance against those teams, she was named Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week, SoccerSavings.com/Soccer News Net Women’s College Player of the Week, CollegeSoccer360.com’s National Primetime Player of the Week and ACC Player of the Week.
