Bartenstein Cruises Into Riviera/ITA All-American Main Draw

Pacific Palisades, Calif. – A day after advancing into the Round of 16 qualifying bracket at the 2011 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, University of Miami women’s tennis senior Anna Bartenstein picked up another win Wednesday evening at the Riviera Country Club. With the win, Bartenstein advances into the main draw event set to begin Thursday afternoon.
Bartenstein, currently ranked 25th nationally, was the third-seeded player in the qualifying singles draw. She cruised into the main draw with a 6-4, 6-4 straight-set win over Georgia’s 56th-ranked Maho Kowase.
For Bartenstein, Wednesday’s victory was her 25th in her last 28 matches and pushes her record for the fall season out to 9-1. It was also her third consecutive straight-set win of the tournament.
She will now wait to see who her Round of 32 opponent in the main draw will be following the conclusion of the final match Wednesday evening out on the west coast. A redraw will be done for the eight qualifying singles winners prior to their main draw matches.
Singles quarterfinalists and consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, held Nov. 3-6 in Flushing, N.Y.
The top eight seeds for the main draw have already been announced, led by California’s Jana Juricova. Florida’s Allie Will is the second seed, followed in order by Kristy Filling (Notre Dame), Denise Dy (Washington), Lauren Embree (Florida), Zoe DeBruycker (North Carolina), Nicole Gibbs (Stanford) and Josipa Beck (Clemson).
