Canes Bartenstein Slips in All-American Main Draw

Pacific Palisades, Calif. – University of Miami women’s tennis senior Anna Bartenstein fell in her main draw bracket opener Thursday in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at the Riviera Country Club.

Bartenstein earned a trip to the main draw bracket Round of 32 after winning three qualifying singles matches Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Thursday, the Graz, Austria native – ranked 25th nationally – faced off against top-seeded Jana Juricova from the University of California. Juricova, ranked No. 1 in the nation in the ITA Preseason Poll, defeated Bartenstein in three sets on scores of 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Juricova now advances to face Zoe Scandalis of Southern California on Friday.

Bartenstein will wait to see who she will play on Friday in the back draw bracket. Selections and match-ups for the back draw will be announced later this evening after the conclusion of the final match out on the west coast.

Bartenstein’s loss is just her second of the fall campaign, dropping her record to 9-2.

Singles quarterfinalists and consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, held Nov. 3-6 in Flushing, N.Y.
