Bolivar Finishes UCF Quad Tournament Undefeated
ORLANDO – University of Miami sophomore Melissa Bolivar wrapped up a perfect weekend in Orlando with a big three-set win Sunday over USF’s Loreto Alonso Martinez on the final day of play of the UCF Quad Tournament.
After dropping the first set, 6-4, Bolivar responded with a 6-2 win in the second before fighting off Alonso Martinez for a 6-4 third set win. Bolivar finished the weekend with a 3-0 record in singles, with wins over opponents from USF, Stetson and UCF.
In addition to Bolivar’s flawless weekend, the Canes wrapped up the tournament undefeated in doubles play, going 6-0 on the weekend. On Sunday, Bolivar and Brittany Dubins beat Clarke Tatje and Jennifer Miller of Stetson, 8-4, while Anna Bartenstein and Gabriela Mejia beat Sara Lazarevich and Diana Bukarjeva, 8-1.
Mejia also picked up a win in singles on Sunday, beating USF’s Fanny Fracassi, 6-4, 6-3 to finish the tournament with a 3-1 singles mark.
In other singles action, Bartenstein suffered her first singles defeat of the fall in dropping a tight 7-6 (6), 7-6 (6) decision to Ecaterina Vasenia of USF.
