Men's Tennis Opens Fall Season

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team finished with one singles win and a pair of doubles victories on the opening day of the Florida State Championships at the University of South Florida.
After rain delayed play early in the day, sophomore Diego Soto managed to go undefeated. He won his singles match against FAU’s Chris Jansen in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-1.
Sophomore Gabriel Flores teamed up with Soto in doubles competition to defeat FSU’s Brian Alden and Jason Zafiros 8-4.
Senior Santiago Nieto paired with sophomore Pedro Ast to score UM’s other doubles victory, an 8-2 match against Michael Beiler and Steve Binninger from Florida Gulf Coast.
Play will continue through the rest of the weekend at the Florida State Championships.
