Three Canes Remain Undefeated at UCF Tournament

Bartenstein

ORLANDO – Miami’s Anna Bartenstein, Melissa Bolivar  and Brittany Dubins remained unbeaten in singles play through the second day of play at the UCF Quad Tournament Saturday as all three cruised in straight set wins against opponents from the host Knights.

Bartenstein – Miami’s highest ranked singles player at No. 25 – improved her fall record to 6-0 after taking down Alexis Rodriguez, 6-3, 6-1. Bolivar’s win was a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Courtney Griffith while Dubins claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Jenna Doerfler.

The Canes also improved their mark to 4-0 in doubles play this weekend as both of UM’s teams were victorious for a second straight day after recording wins against teams from USF. Bartenstein and Gabriela Mejia beat Ecaterina Vaseina and Lorento Alonso Martinez, 8-4, while Bolivar and Dubins took down Fanny Francassi and Alessandra Bonte, 8-2.

“We’ve been doing a good job in doubles the last two days,” head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “We have been implementing more structure in our doubles and I’m beginning to see our comfort level improve with one another.”

In other singles action, Mejia fell to 1-1 this weekend after a 6-0, 6-4 loss to Alexandra Cercone – the lone player Florida Gator participating in the tournament.

“Gaby played a great second set but give credit to Cercone for starting quicker,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “Despite the loss, it was good match.”

The round-robin style tournament held at the UCF Tennis Complex will wrap up Sunday with the Canes playing Stetson in doubles and USF in singles.

“We are getting a little better each day, becoming more match-tough,” Yaroshuk-Tews added. “I hope to see more of that tomorrow.”
