Bartenstein, Mejia Win Singles Titles at Duke Fab-4 Invite

CARY, N.C.- University of Miami seniors Anna Bartenstein and Gabriela Mejia capped of a big opening weekend for the Hurricanes as each earned singles titles on the final day of play at the Duke Fab-4 Invite at the Cary Tennis Center.

Mejia pulled off yet another big win in taking down Virginia’s 36th-ranked Emily Fraser of Virginia, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win to claim the `Blue’ bracket championship. Meanwhile, her teammate Bartenstein was winning her own title in the `White’ bracket, pulling away from Texas A&M’s 20th-ranked Nazari Urbina, 6-4, 6-3.

Sunday Results

Both seniors wrapped up their first fall tournament with a perfect 4-0 record in singles play. Mejia earned wins over Haley Hemm (North Carolina), 67th-ranked Rachael White (Illinois) and 104th-ranked Hanna Mar (Duke) while Bartenstein took down Amy Allin from Illinois, Lauren McHale (UNC), 54th-ranked Rachel Kahan (Duke) and Urbina en route to her title.

Mary Anne MacFarlane from Alabama won the other singles flight in the tournament.

Mejia, Bartenstein and the Hurricanes will now return to action next weekend when they travel to Orlando to participate in the UCF Quad Tournament from Sept. 23-25.
