PINEHURST, N.C.– The University of Miami football team has been predicted to finish second in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference according to a poll of media members attending this week’s ACC Football Kickoff at the Pinehurst Resort.

The Canes were chosen to finish second in the division behind Virginia Tech, who received 66 of 71 first place votes in the division. Miami received four votes, while predicted fourth-place finisher Georgia Tech received one.

In the Coastal, Virginia Tech tallied 421 points in the voting, while Miami garnered 328. North Carolina was third with 287 points, followed by Georgia Tech with 226, Virginia with 132 and Duke with 96.

Also announced on Monday was the preseason ACC Player of the Year voting, which has Boston College running back Montel Harris leading the way with 26 votes. Miami’s Lamar Miller (two votes) and Sean Spence (one vote) ranked seventh and eighth respectively in the voting.

Florida State was selected as the league’s preseason favorite and Atlantic Division champion. A match-up between the Seminoles and Hokies was voted as the most likely match-up in the ACC Championship game, while Florida State beating Miami was chosen as the third-most likely scenario.
