Capital One Academic All-America Team I Bianca’s Farewell I Wrapping Up Another Successful Season

TOWSON, Md. – Former University of Miami women’s tennis student-athlete Bianca Eichkorn has been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Team, as selected by CoSIDA and announced by the organization on Thursday.

It marks the second straight year Eichkorn earned All-America honors (University Division At-Large) from CoSIDA and the third straight year she earned All-District honors, as she was named to District 3’s First Team for the 2010-11 academic year.

“As successful as Bianca was here throughout her career on the tennis courts, she equaled that performance in the classroom,” head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone over the last four years as dedicated as she was to her education and ultimately, this program.”

Eichkorn graduated in May with a 3.80 GPA and a degree in International Finance and Marketing. She earned Dean’s List honors all eight semesters she was enrolled at UM and was named the ACC’s 2010 Scholar Athlete of the Year (this year’s winner has yet to be announced).

In addition to her performance in the classroom, Eichkorn closed out her career as Miami’s all-time winningest singles player for both the men’s and women’s programs with 133 career victories. She also owns the school record for the most combined singles and doubles victories in a career with 241.

This past season, she earned ACC Player of the Year honors after going a perfect 11-0 against ACC opponents during the regular season, with 10 of her 11 wins coming in straight sets. She closed out the season with a team-best 33 singles wins and a dual match record of 22-4 in Miami’s No. 1 position.

In doubles, she went 32-5 overall and 24-2 in dual match play at No. 1 alongside Anna Bartenstein.

Eichkorn was joined by nine others on District 3’s University Division First Team and by 14 others on the All-America second team. Last season, she earned first team All-District and third team All-America honors.

The women’s At-Large program for Academic All-America includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, golf, gymnastics, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis and water polo.
