Coral Gables, Fla.–For hundreds of youth across the country, the dream to play football for the Miami Hurricanes begins on Sunday, May 29, at the Al Golden Football Camp on the University of Miami campus.
The camp, which features six one-day sessions at an affordable price of $55 per session, is open to students grades six through 12. Featuring coaching from the current Hurricane coaching staff and former players, as well as guest coaches across Division-1, I-AA, II, and III, it is no surprise that the Al Golden Football Camp is the fastest growing one-day football camp on the East Coast.
“If you’re a high school player with any dream of playing at Miami, this camp is your best chance to get noticed,” said University of Miami Director of Player Development Ryan McNamee.
The camp is described as a “fundamental skills” camp. All campers will enjoy the same facilities used by the Miami Hurricane football team, including Hecht Athletic Center and the Greentree Practice Fields. Even with an expected camp attendance between 300 and 500 at each session, McNamee says that no camper will feel left out.
“It’s all about individual instruction,” he said. “If a high school athlete looking for a collegiate scholarship wants to hone his skills, this is the camp. If a younger player that just started playing wants to develop, this is his camp too.”
A long list of collegiate and former NFL coaches will be taking part in the camp. Five-time national champion and Hurricane offensive line coach Art Kehoe, former NFL and current Hurricane defensive line coach Jethro Franklin, and coach Golden himself will all be on hand instructing campers throughout the day. Former Hurricanes have also signed up to offer their assistance at the various sessions, including Lamar Thomas, Bernie Kosar, Ken Dorsey, Gino Torretta, Phillip Buchanan, and recent NFL draftees Leonard Hankerson (Washington Redskins) and Brandon Harris (Houston Texans).
With six one-day camps through the months of May and June, there is ample opportunity to attend multiple sessions. A special “2 For U” deal offers campers the opportunity to sign up for an additional camp for just $25.
“This is the camp for anyone who loves to compete,” said McNamee. “There’s going to be a lot of fun, and a lot of energy out on the fields.”
