CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Honors and accolades continue to pile up for University of Miami senior Bianca Eichkorn. Less than a month after becoming the program’s all-time winningest player and being selected Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, Eichkorn has been named the 2011 ITA Southeast Region Senior of the Year.

A two-time All-America performer and native of Tengen, Germany, Eichkorn has enjoyed one of the more successful careers and senior seasons in program history. Her 133 career singles victories are the most recorded by any man or woman to ever play at UM, while she currently ranks in the Top 10 in program history for single season singles victories with 33.

Eichkorn and the fifth-ranked Hurricanes will continue their NCAA Championship run on Friday, May 20 when they take on No. 10 Michigan in a Sweet 16 match at the Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif. Following the team championships, Eichkorn and teammate Anna Bartenstein will compete in the singles and doubles tournament next week in the same location.

Eichkorn heads to California with an overall record of 33-6 and a dual match record of 22-2. In regular season ACC play, Eichkorn went a perfect 11-0 against the conference’s best players in the No. 1 singles position. She has won 18 of her last 19 singles decisions and 19 of her last 20 in doubles alongside Bartenstein.

Eichkorn and Bartenstein are 30-4 overall, 23-2 in dual match play and 13-3 against ranked opposition.

In singles, Eichkorn rides a 10-match winning streak and is 17-4 against ranked opponents.

Miami reached the NCAA Sweet 16 for the sixth straight year after winning the Coral Gables Regional this past weekend. Eichkorn’s 7-5, 6-1 win over 21st-ranked Aeriel Ellis of Texas put the Canes up 3-1 before teammate Danielle Mills clinched the regional title with a win at No. 5.

A day before the tournament got underway, Eichkorn — the ACC’s 2010 Women’s Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year – received her diploma at the University of Miami’s commencement ceremonies. She graduated with a degree in International Finance and Marketing.
