No. 5 Miami Sweeps Eagles in Indoor Action
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The fifth-ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team earned a 7-0 sweep over No. 46 Boston College Friday afternoon indoors at the Flynn Recreation Complex
The Hurricanes (16-4, 8-1 ACC) didn’t have much trouble handling the Eagles (7-11, 2-6) on their home court, winning all three doubles and all six singles matches, with four of the six singles wins coming in straight sets.
UM will now wrap up its regular season road schedule with a 1 p.m. match at No. 26 Maryland on Saturday.
While doubles was contested well, the ‘Canes clinched the points with 8-6 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 before the 11th-ranked tandem of Bianca Eichkorn and Anna Bartenstein made a it a clean sweep with a 9-7 win at No. 1.
When singles play got underway, Eichkorn, as she has done so often this season, cruised to a quick win with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Alex Kelleher in the No. 1 spot. The win moved Eichkorn’s singles mark to 29-6 overall, 18-2 in dual match play and a perfect 9-0 against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents.
After Eichkorn’s win, it didn’t take Miami much longer to clinch the victory as No. 48 Anna Bartenstein earned a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2 before Gabriela Mejia turned in a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4.
Up 4-0, Danielle Mills got back on the winning track with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 5 before Melissa Bolivar (No. 6) and 109th-ranked Kayla Rizzolo eventually picked up three-set wins to secure all seven points for UM..
The ‘Canes are slated to play the Terps (12-6, 2-6 ACC) outdoors at the Cole Tennis Courts, but the match could potentially be moved indoors to the Tennis Center at College Park depending on weather.
