Bianca Eichkorn Named ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Miami senior Bianca Eichkorn has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the second time this season after leading the 12th-ranked Hurricanes to three victories over Top 25 teams with wins over three ranked opponents in the No. 1 singles position.
Eichkorn – currently ranked 10th in singles play by the ITA – opened the week with a crucial 6-3, 7-5 win over No. 5 Denise Muresan in Miami’s 4-3 upset win over fourth-ranked Michigan. Then over the weekend, Eichkorn led UM to ACC road wins over No. 21 Georgia Tech and No. 11 Clemson with victories over 84th-ranked Viet Ha Ngo of the Yellow Jackets (6-1, 6-2) and 15th-ranked Josipa Bek of the Tigers (6-7, 6-3, 7-6).
Eichkorn also went undefeated in Miami’s No. 1 doubles spot teaming with Anna Bartenstein. The 27th-ranked tandem downed Michigan’s 16th-ranked team of Mursean and Brooke Bolender, 8-2, before beating Georgia Tech’s 60th-ranked team of Ngo and Jillian O’Neill, 8-6, and Clemson’s Maria Belaya and Keri Wong, 8-4.
On the season, Eichkorn is 22-5 overall, 11-1 in dual match play and a perfect 3-0 against ACC opponents in the Hurricanes’ top singles position. In doubles, the Tengen, Germany native is 18-3 overall, 11-1 in dual match play and 3-0 in ACC play teaming with Bartenstein at No. 1 for the `Canes.
Eichkorn and the Hurricanes (10-2, 3-0 ACC) will return to action on Wednesday when they host No. 5 North Carolina at 2 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
