Miami Women's Tennis Moves Up to No. 8 in Latest ITA Rankings

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team moved up another spot in the Campbell/ITA rankings this week, coming in at No. 8 in the latest poll released Tuesday night.
The Hurricanes (6-2) have now moved up four spots in the rankings over the last month since opening the spring ranked No. 12.
Miami is coming off a 4-1 win over No. 11 Tennessee Sunday at the ITA National Women’s Team Indoor Championship in Charlottesville, Va. The `Canes are now 5-2 against ranked opposition, with wins over Tennessee, No. 15 Florida State and No. 21 Arizona State.
Tenth-ranked Bianca Eichkorn continues to lead the Hurricanes in the top singles spot. Eichkorn improved to 7-1 in dual match play after going 2-1 in the No. 1 position this past weekend at the ITA Indoors. Eichkorn took down two more ranked opponents in No. 39 Natalie Pluskota of Tennessee (6-2, 6-0) and No. 96 McCall Jones of UCLA (6-4, 6-4) and fell in a highly-contested match to No. 7 Allie Will of Florida, 4-6, 6-3, 3-6.
On the season, Eichkorn is 18-5 overall in singles and 13-3 in doubles teaming with Anna Bartenstein in the top doubles spot. She now has four wins against ranked opponents this spring at No. 1 singles.
Stanford remained the top team in the country after winning the ITA Indoor title this past weekend, while Florida, North Carolina, Duke and Michigan round out the Top 5. California and Baylor rank sixth and seventh, while Virginia and Georgia rank ninth and 10th respectively.
The `Canes will next take the courts Sunday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. when they host UCF in a non-conference match at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
