Bianca Eichkorn Named ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami senior Bianca Eichkorn has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Eichkorn, who went undefeated over the weekend to improve to 5-0 this spring, shares the honor with Virginia’s Emily Fraser.
On Monday, Eichkorn moved up six spots to No. 10 in the national singles rankings.
In wins over No. 57 FIU and No. 15 Florida State, Eichkorn led the now ninth-ranked `Canes at No. 1 singles with dominant wins over 42nd-ranked Katie Rybakova (6-0, 6-0) and FIU’s Liset Brito (6-2, 6-2).
The native of Tengen, Germany also won a pair of matches at No. 1 doubles alongside teammate Anna Bartenstein, beating FIU’s Brito and Maria Spenceley, 8-4, and FSU’s Francesca Segarelli and Ruth Seaborne, 9-7.
On the season, Eichkorn is now 16-4 overall and 5-0 in dual match play in the Hurricanes’ top singles position and 12-2 overall and 5-0 in dual match play teaming with Bartenstein at No. 1 doubles for the `Canes.
Fraser shares the honor with Eichkorn after leading Virginia to a pair of wins on Saturday. She scored a 6-1, 6-1 sweep of Marshall’s No. 27 Michaela Kissell before another straight-set win vs. Winthrop, downing Elizaveta Zaytseva by a 6-0, 7-5 score at No. 1.
Eichkorn and the Hurricanes are continuing preparation for this weekend’s ITA National Team Indoor Championship set to begin Friday at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
