Women's Tennis Set for ITA Southeast Regional
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Four University of Miami women’s tennis student-athletes are set compete in this weekend’s 2010 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships at the University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Senior Bianca Eichkorn, juniors Anna Bartenstein and Gabriela Mejia and freshman Kayla Rizzolo will represent the `Canes beginning with doubles play Friday morning at 9 a.m.
Eichkorn is the tournament’s No. 2 singles seed and will face Florida State’s Federica Suess in the opening round, while Bartenstein is seeded fifth and will go up against Georgia Tech’s Muriel Wacker Friday. Together, Eichkorn and Bartenstein will serve as the regional championship’s top-seeded team. They will open play FIU’s Liset Brito and Maria Spenceley.
Mejia is the No. 13 singles seed and she will face Elizabeth Kilborn of Georgia Tech in first round. Before that singles match however, Mejia and Rizzolo will face Kilborn and her teammate Jillian O’Neill in doubles action early Friday. Rizzolo will face FIU’s Brito in first round singles.
Eichkorn (4-1) is ranked 15th nationally by the ITA in singles play, while Bartenstein (3-1) is No. 53 and Mejia (3-1) is No. 83. In doubles, the 17th-ranked duo of Eichkorn and Bartenstein is 4-1 this fall.
