PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – The University of Miami’s 16th-ranked doubles tandem of Bianca Eichkorn and Anna Bartenstein advanced into the quarterfinal round of main draw doubles action at the 2010 ITA/Riviera All-American Championships with an 8-6 win over a team from Texas A&M Friday at the at the Riviera Tennis Club.

A day after taking down Virginia’s 12th-ranked tandem of Lindsey Hardenbergh and Erin Vierra, Eichkorn and Bartenstein came away victorious against Texas A&M’s 45th-ranked duo of Morgan Frank and Nazari Urbina.

Following the doubles win, Eichkorn shifted her focus to main draw singles play where she was slated to face the nation’s top-ranked player in Jana Juricova of Cal. After dropping the first set 6-1 and falling behind in the second 5-2, Eichkorn stormed back, winning four of the next five games to tie it up at 6-6. “Bianca played some of the best tennis I have ever seen her play over the match’s last six games,” associate head coach Jeff Thomsen said. “She came up a little short in the end, but she proved she can play with anyone in the country today.”

Eichkorn will now shift her focus back to doubles play, where she and Bartenstein will play a quarterfinal match-up with Duke’s 19th-ranked tandem of Ella Nze and Nadine Fahoum on Saturday at 1 p.m. EST. If the `Canes advance past Duke, they will face the winner of a match between a team from Clemson and a team from Mississippi at 5:30 p.m.
