Rain Washes Out Most of Friday's Action at the Miami Fall Invitational
Sept. 24, 2010
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The first day of the 2010 Miami Fall Invitational is in the books after rain eliminated the majority of Friday’s scheduled matches at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Three morning singles matches were able to finish before rain moved in around noon and halted the remainder of play Friday.
All three completed matches went in favor of ranked Hurricanes, with No. 14 Bianca Eichkorn, No. 53 Anna Bartenstein and No. 83 Gabriela Mejia all cruising to easy wins over their opponents from UCF. Eichkorn defeated Jenny Frisell on Court 1, 6-1, 6-1, Bartenstein downed Alexis Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-3 on Court 2 and Mejia eased past Josephine Haraldson, 6-1, 6-1 on Court 5.
On-and-off rain throughout the afternoon kept play from resuming for the better part of five hours before the decision was made to postpone Friday’s matches.
Play will pick back up Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with doubles action. Singles matches will follow immediately after.
Admission to the individual round-robin style tournament is free to the public.
