Women's Tennis to Host Miami Fall Invitational This Weekend

Sept. 22, 2010

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team will open its 2010 fall season when it plays host student-athletes from Michigan, USF and UCF at the Miami Fall Invitational this weekend at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The individual round-robin style tournament will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. each day.

Miami returns the majority of its student-athletes from last year’s team that reached the NCAA quarterfinals for the fourth time in the last five seasons. Under the direction of 10th-year head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews, the ‘Canes will be led on the court this weekend by All-America senior Bianca Eichkorn.

“We’re really looking forward to this weekend and the opportunity to play against some good competition,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “It should be an exciting tournament and a good chance to see how our veterans have matured and how our new players are fitting in.”

The tournament will open with singles play at 10 a.m. Friday morning before doubles action at 1 p.m. and singles again at 3 p.m. The same schedule will be used on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to Eichkorn at the top of the lineup, Miami’s 2010 fall roster features veterans Anna Bartenstein, Gabriela Mejia and Danielle Mills along with newcomers Kayla Rizzolo, Bistra Otashlyska and Brittany Dubins.

All matches will be played at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on UM’s campus. Admission to the tournament is free to the public.
