CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami football team wrapped up its final two-a-day of 2010 fall camp Saturday afternoon, holding a weather-shortened practice under cool conditions at the Greentree Practice Fields.

Waiting Game

The ‘Canes were wrapping up early work and were about to start stretching prior to practice when lightning sirens at Greentree went off, forcing the team inside at 3:20 p.m. to wait out a storm system in the area. The team reemerged at 5:10 p.m. and finally got started with the session after a nearly two hour delay.

Shortened Session

With the late start, the ‘Canes practiced for just under an hour to not only stay on schedule with evening meetings, but to also avoid more weather moving into the area. The team moved quickly from one station to the next, not wasting any of the little time they had available to them. They were able to get in a majority of the original practice plan, which is a good sign heading into Sunday’s walkthrough and Monday’s scrimmage.

What’s Next?

The team will have dinner and meet again tonight before returning to Greentree for a 7:15 a.m. practice Sunday morning. The third and final closed scrimmage of fall camp will then be held Monday night. From there, the team will take Tuesday off before starting Florida A&M game preparation on Wednesday.

Offensive Highlights

A.J. Highsmith made good work in the shortened session, connecting with Tommy Streeter for a long touchdown catch before hitting Aldarius Johnson on a big-gainer a few minutes later. He also connected with Travis Benjamin for a long touchdown of 50 yards and another 30-yard gain.

Clive Walford also stood out in the passing game, grabbing a few intermediate receptions early in the session.

Defensive Highlights

Allen Bailey quickly picked up a sack in 9-on-9 action.

– Moments later, Cory Nelms made a leaping grab to record an interception to keep the momentum with the defense.
